After a series of emails with the NMDOT, it appears that we now have a positive closure of the issue. The contractor, AWP Safety Co, had their original permit for barrel placement modified by the DOT granting agency now requiring that the barrels be placed out of the shoulder/bike lane. They also need to post signs indicating that men are working in the area. Photos I received this morning from the contractor via the NMDOT show that they are now in compliance with the changes. We owe the NMDOT a big “Thank You” for the aggressive and timely action that was taken to correct this situation. So, better, safer biking for all. If further issues with the barrels are noticed, contact me and I will f/u.
