It seems that some ride start times for June and July are at 8:30. The reason for this is to have a little cooler temps for riding. While this may be the case, I submit that routinely starting any local ride before 9:00 puts us on the road near the end of the morning rush where many people tend to drive recklessly to get to work on time (I used to be one of them). That is why it is called “rush hour.” I don’t think that a few degrees lower temperature is worth the risk of being on a bicycle at that time of day. In the case of a severe heat wave, a ride could be posted to start earlier, but many people will likely not ride at all.
What are the thoughts of you B and C riders since these rides are shorter and less effected by the temperature?
