Because of the closures on NM 4 and the subsequent fire dangers in the Jemez, the ride from Cerro Grande this Thursday, July 2, is cancelled.
The replacement ride will start at the Sierra del Norte parking lot for the Dale Ball Trails at 9 am on Thursday. Sierra del Norte is about a half mile past Gonzales Rd. on Hyde Park Road, the road to the Ski Area, on the left.
It will be a staggered ride with turnarounds at Big Tesuque (9 miles), Aspen Vista (10.5 miles), and The Ski Area parking lot. (12.2 miles) We’ll have regroups at Hyde Park, Big Tesuque, Aspen Vista and obviously, the Ski Area. On the way down, we won’t regroup. Just ride carefully through the sharp curves.
At the start of the ride, there will be strong shadows if it’s clear, so wear bright clothing and be sure to have your lights with you and turned on. Riding single file is critical as well.
