From Santa Fe MPO

Saturday, October 9th, 8am through Sunday, October 10th, 4pm
Have you ever felt uncomfortable, unsafe, or nervous to ride a bicycle in the bike lane? Then maybe a protected bicycle lane is for you!
This weekend we are hosting a pop-up protected bike lane demonstration eastbound on Paseo de Peralta from Cerrillos to Old Santa Fe Trail.
What is a protected bike lane?
It’s a bike lane with a physical/vertical separation between the bike lane and car lane.
Why do a demonstration project?
It’s low-cost and low-commitment. Will it work here? Do people like it? We want to find out!
  1. They’re safer for everyone on the road, not just people biking
  2. Studies have shown they boost economic growth
  3. They increase the number of people biking, leading to healthier, more sustainable cities
  4. They’re cheaper than a multi-use trail, but similar in safety
  5. They support an all ages and abilities bike network
You can use the 2021 Bikeways and Trails Map to plan your route to the demonstration, or park nearby and bike through it. The Rail Trail and the Farmer’s Market are only two blocks away from the start! Don’t forget to bring a friend or family member!

(Ed note:  There will be several rest stops along the route with organic fresh fruit, organic Tequila, green chili cheeseburgers, Oreos, and Gatorade to fuel your ride. )
