SOB Board Meeting February 2, 2026 Travel Bug in Santa Fe
Those in attendance were: Judy Costlow, President and Ride Director; Steve Pilcher, Bike Advocacy; Lynn Pickard, Advocate and B Ride Coordinator; Michael Knarr, Sponsor Chair; Rich Irell, Treasurer and Membership Committee; Bob Bogart, WebMaster, Membership Committee, and A Ride Coordinator; Lore Thorpe, Social Chair; Ian Norrish, WebMaster and Membership Committee; and Christine Van Dornick, Secretary.
The meeting began at 10 AM with President Judy Costlow presenting some club history with detailed notes from former president, educator extraordinaire, and board member Edwin Crosswhite. Joel Stein and Herb Shoen are credited with starting the Santa Fe Seniors on Bikes in 2008. The first club jersey was designed in 2009. There were three sponsors at that time.
Judy stated she has been part of the SOB Board for many years and has decided to step down from her role as President. Lynn Pickard has volunteered to be the next president and all on the Board approved this change. Judy will remain on the Board as President Emeritus for consistency and useful history.
Rich Irell provided the Treasurer’s Report. Rich stated that he was able to reconcile the financial statement between 2024 and 2025 with a very minor discrepancy ($0.34). There will be a separate email provided for SOB Financial information so that information does not go into Rich’s personal email. Rich stated he has created a folder with waivers for the last three years. For the current member roster, Rich has checked the information for waivers signed and PayPal account.
Rich provided information that fixed expenses, mainly from insurance expenses, exceeded the current amount in checking. He made up the difference with personal resources. In order to rectify this situation, the Board decided to increase dues from $20 to $30 in the following method. Members will be allowed a grace period to pay dues before February 17th with $20 per person. Paying after that date would mean the increase to $30 per member would be in effect. Dues for 2027 would stay at the same rate of $30. Lynn will post this information to the blog.
The Board also decided to eliminate the summer luncheon. It has been poorly attended. In addition, the Board decided not to subsidize lunches or give out goodies to ride leaders or board members, at least until the treasury is in better shape.
Steve Pilcher updated the Board on a potential Bike Summit in May of 2026 and advised the Board there is public input into improvements for Airport Road.
Ian Norrish and Bob Bogart, WebMasters, both said that there is much information on the website including pictures and videos from past club events.
Lore Thorpe, Social Chair, stated again that the summer luncheon at Chimayo will be eliminated but the fall End of Season lunch will be continued.
Michael Knarr, Sponsor Chair, stated that there are currently three sponsors: Rob and Charlies, Bike and Sport and Sincere Cyclery. F 1 Cyclery is now renamed El Cyclery. Lynn noted that Pedro of El wanted to be a sponsor and his shop is included in the welcome letter. Ian said he would change the welcome letter to El Cyclery. Lynn also sent his logo to be used for the website to Ian and Bob.
Judy continued with the agenda and the Board discussed the Ride Leaders Meeting. This meeting to discuss the ride schedule will be combined with ride leader training. The tentative date for the Ride Leaders Meeting and training is February 27 at 11 am in the REI Community Room. Bob and Lynn will continue as Ride Leader Coordinators. Lynn recommends that ride participants should be recorded if there is an incident.
Members should check the “about us” tab on the webpage for information including sponsor details, videos, and pictures.
The meeting adjourned at 11:30 am.
